Summary

I love you 。 。 。 but what if I can't love your life?

Ava is sick of online dating。 She's always trusted her own instincts over an algorithm, anyway, and she wants a break from it all。 So when she signs up to a semi-silent, anonymous writing retreat in glorious Italy, love is the last thing on her mind。

Until she meets a handsome stranger。 。 。 All she knows is that he's funny, he's kind and - she soon learns - he's great in bed。 He's equally smitten, and after a whirlwind, intoxicating affair, they pledge their love without even knowing each other's real names。

But when they return home, reality hits。 They're both driven mad by each other's weird quirks and annoying habits, from his eccentric, naked-sauna-loving family to her terribly behaved, shirt-shredding dog。 As disaster follows disaster, it seems that while they love each other, they just can't love each other's lives。 Can they overcome their differences to find one life, together?

Did not like。 Tried to read several times and just put it down。 Could not get through it。

Ava goes to a writer’s retreat in Italy where she’s not allowed to reveal anything about herself。 Not her name, where she’s from or her profession。 Everyone takes on a fake name for the retreat。 At the retreat, she meets “Dutch” and they have a passionate fling。 I was LOLing so hard at some of the writing samples, especially the scene after they both got amorous and it snuck its way into their scene。 SO FUNNY。 When it’s time to go, they’re both seeing hearts and little Disney birds flying overhe Ava goes to a writer’s retreat in Italy where she’s not allowed to reveal anything about herself。 Not her name, where she’s from or her profession。 Everyone takes on a fake name for the retreat。 At the retreat, she meets “Dutch” and they have a passionate fling。 I was LOLing so hard at some of the writing samples, especially the scene after they both got amorous and it snuck its way into their scene。 SO FUNNY。 When it’s time to go, they’re both seeing hearts and little Disney birds flying overhead, and have idealistic thoughts of who the other must be。 And then comes the reality check。 They have absolutely nothing in common and in fact drive each other crazy。 This novel felt not so much like a romance (there was so much arguing, I truly wondered if the two main characters would end up together) but a story of friendships and family。 I loved the friend groups of both main characters and their interesting backstories。 Matteo’s family was also interesting and fun to read about。 And of course, every scene with Harold the beagle was priceless。 I've probably read at least 6-7 Sophie Kinsella books and all of them have been 5-star reads for me。 She's an amazing writer and I love the Shopaholic series。 This one was just a miss for me。 Please excuse typos/name misspellings。 Entered on screen reader。 。。。more

It was okay。 Not my favorite by Sophie。 Took me awhile to get into it but I wanted to finish what I started so I stuck with it。 True to her style, her characters are quirky and silly and funny。 I did enjoy it nearer the end。 Wondering if there will be a sequel?

Nikki

Such a fun, quick read with very lovable characters。 Exactly what I needed after my last read。

Amy De Wolfe

Not as funny or engaging as some of Sophie Kinsella’s books, but okay for a light chick lit option。

No one does romantic comedy like Sophie Kinsella。 This book was another win。 So fun。 Did not see how it would ever work out, but I loved the HEA!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 The description of this book had me hooked, initially。 I loved the idea behind the book, but it fell apart quickly! The main character, Ava, is just over-the-top, immature, and is shocked by how little she knows about the man she has interacted with for roughly one week。。。(he's NOT a vegetarian?!? But he ate vegetarian food at the retreat, which was all they offered to begin with! While this wasn’t my favorite of Sophie Kinsella’s books (it’s going to be hard to top my love for Can You Keep A Secret), it was an enjoyable read。 Sophie writes the best characters! Harold was absolutely my favorite and kept me laughing throughout the book。 The friends in their supporting roles were also quite good。

Kerry Bell

Enjoyed the book but did find that the main character Ava was a bit annoying。

I just finished and I can't even remember won't moment I loved。 I didn't even necessarily love one character that much more than the other。 I just know that Ava is horrible in comparison to Matt and he has some faults of his own, but she is on a whole other level。 She expects her lifestyle to be excepted by him and can't fathom him contradicting her。 She is never compromising and I don't know how Matt can keep dealing with it as long as he did。 Nothing shined about this novel and I would just re I just finished and I can't even remember won't moment I loved。 I didn't even necessarily love one character that much more than the other。 I just know that Ava is horrible in comparison to Matt and he has some faults of his own, but she is on a whole other level。 She expects her lifestyle to be excepted by him and can't fathom him contradicting her。 She is never compromising and I don't know how Matt can keep dealing with it as long as he did。 Nothing shined about this novel and I would just read any other book。 。。。more

Love Your Life has all the elements we expect from a Sophie Kinsella novel: a fun and flirty romance, the realistic (but whacky) characters, the zany antics, and the eager anticipation of ‘will they or won’t they?’ LYL’s protagonists and their friends (and Hariold the dog!) fill the bill expertly, if not slightly annoyingly。 Our leading lady, Ava, is a lot to take in。 A。 LOT。 Ava reads a lot like Dory of Finding Nemo fame, but isn’t nearly as cute。 Haha! A 2。5 star read。

Claire

Total trash, but readable。

This is more like 2。5 stars 。。。 I didn't hate it but it was just soooo predictable。 Like, you meet a guy at a writing retreat where you aren't supposed to share personal information and think you're not going to have any problems once you return to actual life? There's no way。 Also, it's pretty easy to make me fall in love with guys in books but in this case, I was not a fan。 Matt's apartment seemed creepy and he acted like he wasn't creating problems by allowing his parents to control his life。 This is more like 2。5 stars 。。。 I didn't hate it but it was just soooo predictable。 Like, you meet a guy at a writing retreat where you aren't supposed to share personal information and think you're not going to have any problems once you return to actual life? It’s cute and entertaining, would make a cute rom com in the theaters。 Not as good as Sophie Kinsella’s other books but was a good, funny read。

I just love this author - I didn't have the out loud laughs with this story, but definitely some chuckles and just found it an enjoyable, far-fetched love story。 With a happy ending - sometimes you just need a feel good, silly story。 I just love this author - I didn't have the out loud laughs with this story, but definitely some chuckles and just found it an enjoyable, far-fetched love story。 With a happy ending - sometimes you just need a feel good, silly story。 。。。more

I hesitate to label this novel as chick-lit, since it is really so much more。 Yes, there is romance, but not the causal fling type。 There is sadness, but not without hope for better days。 The book isn’t filled with mindless dialogue or idle chatter。 The characters are quirky and somewhat flawed, but in an endearing way。 Ava wants to write a book but has trouble focusing on that task。 A week-long writing workshop in Italy sounds perfect。 It wasn’t quite what she expected, and she certainly didn’t I hesitate to label this novel as chick-lit, since it is really so much more。 Yes, there is romance, but not the causal fling type。 There is sadness, but not without hope for better days。 The book isn’t filled with mindless dialogue or idle chatter。 The characters are quirky and somewhat flawed, but in an endearing way。 Ava wants to write a book but has trouble focusing on that task。 A week-long writing workshop in Italy sounds perfect。 It wasn’t quite what she expected, and she certainly didn’t expect to meet her one true love there, but she did。 Well, maybe she did。 Matt and Ava are made for each other, at least in Italy。 When they get home, reality rears its ugly head。 This novel explores several topics: love, compromise, understanding, demands, deal-breakers, friendships, illness, dependability, responsibility, jealousy, patience, and more。 And it does it in a thoughtful yet entertaining manner。 The characters, flaws and all, are delightful, and the writing is superb。 It’s a wonderful thing to have a rom-com book of this caliber when all you want to do - no, make that what you need to do - is escape from the world and its woes。 At least for a while。 Well done, Ms。 Kinsella。 。。。more

Though her characters are all the same and fairly predictable, I still generally like Sophie Kinsella’s light-hearted books。 This one was disappointing though。 I found it pretty boring。 I never really got into it。

it had a strong start but very quickly i started hating all the characters :( the first 5 chapters are good though lol

A good one, but not Sophie Kinsella's greatest work。 It started off being fun and interesting, then veered off into a story that took the characters on turns you wouldn't expect。 Not the funny, let's see how they get out of it now, but in a why would they even do that?I liked the inclusion of the dog, I kinda liked Ava (though she seemed a bit all over the place at time), I wasn't a fan of Ava's friends and Matt didn't seem like someone you'd like to be friends with (too grumpy for my liking)。A A good one, but not Sophie Kinsella's greatest work。 It started off being fun and interesting, then veered off into a story that took the characters on turns you wouldn't expect。 Not the funny, let's see how they get out of it now, but in a why would they even do that?I liked the inclusion of the dog, I kinda liked Ava (though she seemed a bit all over the place at time), I wasn't a fan of Ava's friends and Matt didn't seem like someone you'd like to be friends with (too grumpy for my liking)。A good enough book, but I'd recommend others of the author before this。 。。。more

Kinsella is back with her humorous and witty female character, Ava。Namanya unik ya, dan ceritanya juga gak biasa。 Kedua tokoh utama memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangannya masing-masing, yang membuat mereka terasa 'nyata'。 Kisahnya gak melulu bed of roses, ada juga sedihnya, geramnya, harunya, pokoknya komplit。Yang seru ketika dua kelompok sahabatan bertemu, dan mereka 'klik' sehingga membangun persahabatan dengan lingkaran yang lebih luas, itu seru banget sih。 Suka banget ide yang seperti itu, dan Kinsella is back with her humorous and witty female character, Ava。Namanya unik ya, dan ceritanya juga gak biasa。 Kedua tokoh utama memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangannya masing-masing, yang membuat mereka terasa 'nyata'。 Kisahnya gak melulu bed of roses, ada juga sedihnya, geramnya, harunya, pokoknya komplit。Yang seru ketika dua kelompok sahabatan bertemu, dan mereka 'klik' sehingga membangun persahabatan dengan lingkaran yang lebih luas, itu seru banget sih。 Suka banget ide yang seperti itu, dan memang memungkinkan banget untuk terjadi。Pain is the least romantic partner you can have in your bed。 Sahabat2nya Ava juga memiliki masalah sendiri dalam hidup, dan mendapat porsi yang cukup dalam novel ini。 Nell dengan penyakitnya, Maud dengan kerempongannya (tapi di akhir-akhir cerita gak muncul lagi tuh dua anaknya Maud, dititip di mana ya?), Sarita dengan usahanya mencari jodoh melalui aplikasi。 Lalu sahabatnya Matt: Topher yang fisiknya gak sempurna, Nihal yang jenius。 Ketika genk cowok-cowok ini bergabung dengan genk cewek-cewek, jadi seru banget vibesnya。Ah, pokoknya suka banget! Stand alone nya mbak Kinsella belum pernah mengecewakan。 Saya malah udah berhenti baca seri shopaholicnya :D 。。。more

This book got me all annoyed and worked up in the middle。 If it hadn't been for the fantastic banter between the friends and the most random amalgamation of topics/careers of the characters, I'd have never finished。 That banter was superbly deserving of the extra star。 Made me miss my friends :) Oof!
